You can also create multiple boundaries and use that and z depth limits to control what you want to cut. You still need to select say all the outside, change that to a color, then select the inside (or the floors, walls, radii, whatever you want to seperate from the rest) and change that to a different color so they are grouped for the next set of operations or whatnot. You can make this easier to repeat if you change colors however as I mentioned. I think with surfaces (similar to using solid faces) you are basically stuck selecting them individually if you don't want to select the inside of your part and outside both. Depending on your orientation, go to the front view and then window select and you can control the the z depth (in the top view) a little easier, but this will still select all (inside and outside of the shape). You could change the color of what you want to cut and select that color, but then you still need to select them to change the color. As to selecting the surfaces, not sure as I have almost exclusively used solid bodies for the past few years. Probably the easiest path to create, maybe not the most efficient, but you could have that programmed in 5 minutes and get it in the machine and running while you work on the rest of programming.
